Sure! In fact, many MP3 players also double as an external USB storage
device and it shows up as another hard drive in the system. Some will even
allow you to just copy the MP3's directly without using their proprietary
software.

Smaller size devices hold upto 1GB and may have a memory slot for expansion
via CF/SD/MS/XD type flash cards. Larger devices are hard drive based and
the highest capacity I've seen so far is 60GB. The Apple iPod is the most
well-known of these devices and the iPod Mini is the newest member of the
family. Other brands include Rio, Archos, Pogo, and others.

The larger capacity MP3 player may be the optimum solution. It will double
as both an MP3 player and an external storage device. More expensive this
way, but more flexible. For absolute simplicity, I don't think you can beat
the iPod (Apple excels in simplicity).

Sorry, I don't have specifics about any particular MP3 players. I don't own
any stand-alone MP3 players as I'm not that fond of the way MP3's sound
(they're a bit "edgy" to my ears). I'm not even sure how people can stand
the "phase shift" noise created by some highly-compressed and/or streaming
digital formats (such as Real Audio). Don't even get me started about
paying $10 to see a movie in a brand new "state-of-the-art" "stadium seating
theater that has a half-ass sound system. But, I digress...

What about the external MP3 devices? Can he download to the HD and then copy
to
one of these?
