Mainly for transfering info to/from other IR equipped computers (such as
address book on your office/home pc.)

I think you can get a remote to control powerpoint demonstrations when
hooked up to a projector.

I found a program to use my handspring as a remote for tv/vcr/dvd, etc.
There may be something available for the Thinkpad too.
