I just noticed I have not set a password on my Linksys BEFSR41 router
(non-wireless). I went to the Linksys site to see about entering a
password. The password part was clear, but was not sure about the user
name, since there didn't seem to be a place to enter it other than the
initial entry to the router using 192.168.1.1. At the initial entry, they
say to leave the user name field blank and enter the default password.
i went to the FAQ section, and got the impression the password is used
primarily to avoid local changes, or possibly changes via a
network. However, default for the router is for remote upgrades and remote
administration to be disabled. If I'm correct, the router password is no
help in avoiding malware. Am I correct?
