One danger with firewalls, they not only keep out bad things, they also keep out
many good things. The better the firewall, the more restrive they are. they may
block what you do not wish to have blocked. Always a compromise, heh?

I use a old pentium 100 Mhz system with 2 network cards and Freesco.
Freesco is a linux distro on one floppy with a really good firewall.
If you want to be really locked down there is a Paranoid Firewall that
can be installed on it also.
REALLY easy to setup and forget...LOL
