What I can remember is that although in theory DOS is installed on C:
and the CD-ROM should therefore be D:, provided there are no other
drives, sometimes this is not the case, as you have found out.
What I can remember is that the CD-ROM drive might actually be b: or
even A: if there is not a stiffy drive in the machine.
Going into the BIOS when the machine boots up by pressing Del, you
should be able to see if the CD-ROM is said to be installed and of
course if there is a stiffy drive. Going into the enhanced options will
allow you to change things like Bootup floppy seek, boot order etc. I am
assuming that the system does not have the ability to boot from CD_ROM
and so therefore maybe something could be changed in the BIOS that
allows DOS to recognise the drive.

Another option, of you have a stiffy disk is to copy the CD contents
onto a stiffy and install it from the stiffy drive.
