Photoshop effects came with digital camera. I used it to improve some 75 
year and 40 year old photos of my aunt. The software has options to go 
back. If you are going to print the photos I find that 200 - 300 dpi is 
good.
You multiply the dpi by the picture size and you then have an image of 
2000 x 1500.
You then divide these number separately by  200 and you then get 10 x 
7.5 which you would use for a 7.5 x 10 picture. Most photos are printed 
at 200 dpi even though the printer may be rated for high dpi you will 
find that photos printers work great at 200.

People at the funeral could not pick the photos that were from  a photo 
lab and the glossies that came from my Epson 785EX printer.
