Ron,
You might also want to consider checking to see if its been removed from
you startup menu by clicking on Start, Run,
and typing MSCONFIG, click on OK, then click on the startup tab in the
box that opens.
See if the box that says MSNMSGR (C:\Program Files\MSN
Messenger\MSNMSGR.exe)
is checked, and if it is, un-check the box, then click apply. You'll be
prompted to restart
your computer, which you can ignore, as this is not a critical file or
program.
Note that in newer versions of Windows such as XP, Messenger's referred
to as
"Windows Messenger"
