Most versions of Windows by default chooses to hide information from the user.

To make windows disk explorer show file extensions:

1. Start Windows Disk Explorer by any of several methods. I personally hold down
the windows key and momentarily press the e key and release the windows key.
2. On the Exploring tool bar click View.
3. On the drop down menu click Folder Options
4. On the Folder Options select the View tab.
5. This will open the a window with several Advanced Settings.

Within the advanced settings within Files and Folders,
1. Under Hidden files set the Show all files.
2. Unselect Hide file extensions for known file types This step will show the
filename extensions, thus allowing you to rename them.

        Finally click Apply
         And OK

Whenever you need to rename a file (even just the filename extension), if needed,
use Windows Key+e key to open windows explorer.

Negotiate your way to the proper file for the folder, find the file, and right
click on the file.
On the dropdown menu click on Rename
When finished editing, press Enter. If you wish to leave the name unchanged
press Esc

Whenever you need to change the properties of a file:

Negotiate your way to the proper file for the folder, find the file, and right
click on the file.

On the dropdown menu click on Properties

    Good Luck,

              Rolly
