I have been using an internal CD R/W drive as a backup device for about a
year. Each disk holds 640 MB of data and R/W disks act as though it is just
another drive on your computer. You can drag and drop files from Windows
Explorer as if it were a hard drive.
I bought an Iomega CD R/W about a year ago and it failed shortly after
installation. I contacted their Tech support and they immediately sent out a
replacement that has worked fine. I suspect that any CD R/W drive you find
today will work just fine in your application.
One of the nice things about using CDs for backup is that most every
computer has one (unlike a tape drive). So, if your computer dies, your data
can be back in use on another machine in no time.
I use R/W disks for backup and rotate several, so I have various stages of
backup.
My advice to you is to "just do it." You won't be disappointed.
