[Ham-Computers] Messenger Service Question

For the last few days I have been getting "Messenger Service" messages on my
computer.  They are unwanted adds.  I have no idea why they are appearing
all of a sudden and would like to put a stop to them.  Anyone have any ideas
as to how to stop them other than shutting the computer down?

I have a laptop with the XP Operating System including Service Pack 1 and am
running WinAPRS most of the time.  I am subscribed to Charter Internet and
leave the cable modem on at all times like they recommend.  I do not have IE
or my email service running but still get these annoying messages.

Any one have any ideas?  Yes, I have disabled Instant Messenger.  At least I
think I do.  It says that it is not running.
