[Ham-Computers] Removed Norton etc

Hello
Yesterday evening while listening to the shortwave I ran every Norton
diagnostic I had, scanned for Viri etc. It found no problems on the
'pooter. (However, it locked up once again when I opened my Word Processor)

So, I backed up the system to the spare hard drive and totally removed
Norton from the system, removed Eudora (since the AVG virus scanner doesn't
scan it's mail) and reloaded AVG and switched back to O.E. This is the same
setup I've run with good luck for quite some time. I wasn't in any mood to
experiment with other new set-ups.

After I ran the AVG scan it found two .tif files that it said 'might' be
infected with an unknown virus and I told it to isolate them in the "Virus
Vault" (basically remove them). They were two scanned qsl cards that are
easy to replace. Since Norton didn't find them on a "Scan all files" search
and AVG said they "might be infected with an unknown virus" I imagine they
were probably just corrupted files, not infected, but I played it safe.

Anway, after removing Norton and switching back I was amazed at just how
much faster this computer runs! This thing (it's a 600MHz machine with
256MB ram, not a 500 like I said before) had become somewhat sluggish so
that it basically ran no faster than my 200MHz MMX machine the wife is
using. So, guess Norton really doaes slow things down.
