Hi Phil,
I=92m running an 800 MHz Pentium and systemworks 2002. Ever since that in=
stallation,
I have had multiple lockups and many programs have been stopped with the =
illegal
instruction message. As a result, I cannot recommend Norton.
Maybe some of what I have learned will help. I am running windows 98 SE a=
nd MS
Office 2000. I also have an HP 970CSE printer.
I had three continuous problems.
One was very slow response of the computer to everything. I solved that b=
y
removing GoBack.
Two was a lockup every time I tried to print from MS word using the advan=
ced
printer features like double sided printing or last page first. Printing =
from
other programs like Internet explorer, Netscape browser, Netscape email, =
outlook
express, and excel using the printer advanced features was not a problem.=
What I
finally found was if I disabled Norton=92s CleanSweep the problem went aw=
ay.
Third was the screen magnifier control panel would disappear, and the win=
dows
selection of active windows would not work. With the hint from the above =
problem,
if I disabled CleanSweep before activating the screen magnifier the probl=
em does
not occur.
I have several intermittent problems left. All involve a list of about 12=
programs
that generate an illegal instruction. I have also had problems saying I d=
on=92t have
enough disk space, or enough ram space. I have a 75 gig hard drive about =
45% full,
and 256 Meg of ram.
My computer guru=92s recommend removing Norton systemworks by reformattin=
g the hard
drive. They feel you can=92t remove Norton=92s systemworks completely wit=
hout doing
the reformat.
I would appreciate help from anyone who has solved any of the above items=
=2E
Thanks for reading.
