I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Cakewalk was a Midi
recording program to use with MIDI synths etc. I once had a music store try
to sell me a package when I was running an Ensoniq Sampling keyboard, Yamaha
'lectric piano & Roland synth module and Roland Drum machine. I settled on
a rack mount Midi recorder that recorded directly to floppies instead. It
was cheaper and more convenient than a computer to set up when gigging (I
used the Ensoniq as the multitrack recorder).
If it is a MIDI recorder, number of channels used shouldn't affect sound
quality.
