I had the same problem and found it when I compared network settings with my
other computer.

Go to: start>settings>control panel>network
click on: Add
then: Client
then: Microsoft
then choose: Client for Microsoft Networks
After it installs go to the properties for it and make sure "Log on to
Windows NT Network is unchecked. Click "Ok" on everything and after the
computer restarts check the Dialup box. Your "save password" should be open
now. That's what fixed mine but if it doesn't take care of yours let me know
and I'll do some more digging.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Dialup "save password" greyed out

Hi,
I am setting up a computer (window 95) for future
Ham-vaccations guests. I would like to save the
password for the dial in connection so that the
guests do not have to key it in. The box I have
to mark to save the password when dialing my
provider is greyed out and will not accept saving
the password.

Any ideas how I can get the "save password" to work?
