Or perhaps even better for some...

Go to a provider that offers popmail access
(Softhome.net, Hotpop.com, etc...) and set
up one of the 'stand alone' email clients
on your computer like Pegasus or Eudora,
enable demand dialing on your computer
(with a short idle timeout), set the email
client to check your mail every few hours or
at a certain time (like 2 or 3 AM), and have
it get your mail automatically when your phone
line isn't being used for anything else.

That way your mail is on YOUR computer when
you awake in the morning for you to read w/o
having to go through the dialup procedure,
and you reply offline - and your replies are
sent out the next time your client calls to
check for mail (again at 2-3 AM if you choose).

Many of the stand alone eMail clients also allow
you to poll (check for mail) different accounts
so you can have multiple eMail addresses for
different purposes (eg one for Ham, one for SWL,
one for computing, one for auctioning, etc...)
