Thanks Les,

I finally, through discussions like this, remembered that the SX 62b was the one with AFC.  In my old age and eye condition along with poor memory I put a 4 in place of the 6 in the model number.  I have it all straight now other than aligning the discriminator.  It is a bear as Tom said.

I haven't heard of any SX-42 version with AFC, but the last SX-62B receivers, did have AFC on the highest band. THe SX-62 is very similar circuit wise to the SX-42. Here is a link to adding AFC to other SX-62 versions and although I haven't tried it, possibly could be adapted to the SX-42.
