[Hallicrafters] SR-2000 Tank circuit

Looking for some help -

In going through the new SR-2000, I've got the receive and transmit
drive working as it should.  I've now moved on to the PA section.

This area has been totally butchered.  There are at least a half dozen
doorknob capacitors drilled into the panels.  The tank coil got so hot
it began to melt the coil form, and there is melted plastic splattered
all over the compartment.  It appears that the previous operator wired a
complete buss of ground connections, which has resulted in a number of
loops.  There is a second relay mounted next to the HV/Screen input,
which I have yet to figure out it's purpose.  It seems to be wired in to
the antenna relay, which is also not functioning correctly.  To top it
all off, there is plastic sleeve insulation all over everything,
additional parasitic choke resistors in the grid circuit (I think --
it's hard to trace back because it's such a mess.)

The tank coil is so thermally damaged that it sagged into the coil
form.  The previous op put more spaghetti around the coil wire and
cinched it up with a nylon twist tie.  In fact, nylon ties abound,
supporting all of the excess wire that has been installed.

The ceramic band switches seem to be in OK shape, but I'm looking at a
total rebuild I think.  First thing is to rip out all of the "mods" and
try to get it back to the C level schematic.  So here's my question for
the group -- any suggestions on a replacement or fabrication of a new
tank coil?  The photos I see of the OEM don't appear to indicate it's
anything exotic, but I've not tackled a fabrication job for that kind of
power.  I also need to replace the antenna relay and figure out how to
extract all of the extra components in the section.

Any advice on rebuilding this back to factory spec would be most
appreciated.
