[Hallicrafters] speaking of isolation xfmrs.

I have ONE genuine isolation xfmr on the "end" of my Variac, but wanted
more, in spite of the astronomical prices, often asked for 'em. As I'm in
the commercial fire alarm biz, I often get extra 28vac xfmrs when I replace
a control panel board, that doesn't need a new xfmr. Thus - connected
back-to-back, with the 28vac windings together, the 117vac input/output
gives you what you came looking for. Oh, and don't connect the grounds, as
it's "ISOLATION" you want. Typical ratings for these units is anywhere from
5 to 10+ amps, so the xfmrs will handle just about any radio... and the
Price is Right. Note: I've even connected a couple in a "bucking"
arrangement, which lowers the line voltage for older radios.
