Hi Larry,
Go to Hayseeed hamfest <http://hayseedhamfest.com/> and get Tom's
electrolytic. About $18, but it's made very much like the original,
with leads at the ends as needed, and fits in nicely. About $18. I
just did an S-38C and used his full recap kit. I could have tacked in
some single electrolytics at a small savings, but this makes it much
easier. No connection with Hayseed other than as a satisfied customer.
The S-38C came out great, no hums, etc., nice sensitivity, I was
surprized. I had started, in 1956, with an S-38D, never felt like I
needed to recreate my novice stn, but it did serve me well. 40m & 15m
CW, it was hard to find just where your xmtr signal was, but I did make
a lot of QSO's.
73,
Al, W8UT
