Hi Charlie,

I've wondered about that for years, although not enough to pop for the
boxed set (yet at least). Really loved Sky King (didn't we all?) and I
remembered it being an SX-42 after I was old enough to know what an
SX-42 looked like ;-) I don't recall the transmitter but it would make
sense that it was an HT-9 from a product placement standpoint (i.e. they
got both from the same dealer). I thought I recall seeing a
"Gooneybox" but haven't found any proof of it and maybe just mentally
added what I *thought* Sky ought to be using for comms.

If you look on Google Images, you can find a pic of Sky in the Songbird
holding a mic but it looks in this grainy old pic like the cord is
tucked under his leg ;-)

I also found a very grainy one of Mitch the Sheriff sitting in front of
an SX-42 and holding a JT-30 mic with one of the old style Motorola
packsets with a telephone handset visible in the background -
presumably in his office base station but not sure. Think of all the $
the producers could have made with a few hi-res photos of just the radio
gear to sell us adult kids 50 years later!
