I think the Connies are some of the most beautiful planes to ever grace the 
skies! When I was attending
Army Signal School  at Ft Gordon, Ga, ca 1959/1960, I saw the Columbine at the 
Augusta airport. I assume
Ike was there for a round of golf.  A few years ago I was in Auburn, Me looking 
for an RV dealer. I wandered
by the airport  and was astonished to see two Connies parked there!

Although I've flown in many Douglas piston engined transports, I never had the 
pleasure to fly in a Connie.
