Bob;
    I have never done the tube swap.  I have replaced the 5R4 tubes with
a solid state version.  Runs a bit cooler.  Not sure what the 8236
costs, but its probably not worth the mod.  They have a higher plate
dissipation, maybe the tube needs the extra voltage that 5R4 replacement
gives you.
