[Hallicrafters] SX-117 CHANGE LEVELS AND WHAT TO EXPECT

Jim,

I found your notes to be quite interesting. Thank you for a very clear
explanation of the impact of the service level changes had on the SX-117
performance and operating characteristics.

After reading your notes, I am left thinking that when I get to my SX-117, I
will be looking first to determine which service level it is at and then, if
it's A, C, D, or E, determine what I need to do to get it to level "B" with
the exception of the changes you recommend following this paragraph in your
notes"

"There are a few other changes from the B to C level that I would recommend
even if
you don't do the full B to C upgrade. It will improve sensitivity and strong
signal
performance."

Curious that you used this phrase in the paragraph above: "...even if you
don't do the full B to C upgrade."

Given the operating characteristic contrasts you describe in level B versus
C through E, why would anyone bother doing a full upgrade to C or higher?
You cited no advantages that, in my opinion, would be motivation for that
effort. Quite the contrary, as noted, I would be undoing them to get to the
B level.

Thanks for putting these notes together.

73,

Chris

Subject: [Hallicrafters] SX-117 CHANGE LEVELS AND WHAT TO EXPECT

Good afternoon:

Combined some of my old hand written notes from over the years and added
them to the K9AXN web site under service notes/sx-117/sx-117 note regarding
service levels.

It describes what you can expect from the various engineering change levels
of the radio.

It is in draft form and probably needs a good critique for clarity.

A super day to you!

Kindest regards Jim K9AXN
