Hi Jim:
Reason I asked is the the SR-400/400A has a two pin plug and if you happen too have one that is has a hum problem, reversing the plug usually takes care of it. It’ essentially a wire routing problem. The AC power going to the power switch is routed through the wire bundle along with some low level signal wires.

No mine is the two pin AC plug. I did not bother to change it and it is ungrounded except through the coax. The hum is really only noticeable when the volume is turned all the way down in the Normal mode. With any audio at all it I don’t hear it, and In the voice mode it is gone. I have thought about working to get it out but decided against it. The SX 117 I had did not have the same problem and this kind of caught me off guard.
As I mentioned I plan to sell it this Spring so if the new owner wants to change or fix the problem it will be up to him.
Thanks for the information about cleaning the chassis Ron. I have not used that method so will consider it before I sell it. In a way I kind of think I should keep it but space is a premium and I don’t want to store it in the uncontrolled environment of my garage.
Best,
Jim

Do you have a 3 pin plug on it? Some radios with 2 pin plugs will have less hum than those with the 3 pin grounding plug. This aught to generate some conversation!
