If you have a SX-117 you REALLY need to review the multi-part article in ER. I made the changes and it's now one of my 'keepers'...

Hi Jim:

If you liked the SX-117 but not the audio, try an SR-150. You will be
surprised.

I had a 117 some years back and liked the radio. I sounded like a typical
Hallicrafters and felt like one but operated well. I now have a SX 122 that
works well too but drives me up the wall on almost all the ham bands. It is
so quite that you do not know if it is receiving until you tune in a
station. My only rub with the two is the audio quality is not as good as
some other radios.

Hi Ross:

You are right about that radio and your opinion is absolutely correct.

The SX-117 and the SR-150 are a couple of the quietest radios out there.
Mostly as a result of the 1st I.F. tuning along with the VFO. Ever think of
using the SR-150 as a receiver?

Another quality of the SX-117 is the noise limiter. It's really a noise
blanker that works as well as most modern blankers.

There should be no reason that the SX-117 noise limiter design cannot be
used in the SX-100. It would be a super enhancement and it's incredibly
simple.

Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

For what it is worth (nothing), I have owned two different SX-117's that
have since been sold...not due to their performance. I would say they were
one of the quietest receivers that I've ever owned, and that was not due to
a lack of sensitivity. They were a pleasure to use.
