Well, perhaps perhaps before we wrap up, we can make mention of W3NOD
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Beser
"He was the only person to have served as a strike crew member of both missions... Beser's job was to monitor those radars and ensure that there was no interference that could have prematurely detonated it. ... Beser did not visually watch the bomb detonate but he heard the bomb's radar signals switch on and then cut off at the moment the intense light generated by its detonation filled the plane....Beser was an amateur ("ham") radio operator, holding the callsign W3NOD."
I've read a bit about it year backs, and apparently among his duties were to complete the fusing of the bombs' electronics after the B-29s were well airborne - due to the 'iffy' nature of the heavily-loaded B-29's hot-weather performance immediately after takeoff, it was considered particularly dangerous to have this ordnance on board. He then apparently looked at a Hallicrafters (?) receiver with panadaptor (?), to see if the Japanese were attempting to jam the radar altimeters; if so, he could presumably switch to a barometric one.
One of my colleagues, as a boy, knew him well; like most members of the greatest generation, he was quite friendly but very modest regarding his own contributions and rarely could be encouraged to talk about them.
Regarding Hallicrafters per-se, my late Dad (WA2OAE) served in the Signal Corps in WWII, and of course everyone was very familiar with Hallicrafters radios is particular. I was always intrigued that Hallicrafters could prominently carry its 'name brand' and logo 'into action' so to speak; with/without/despite any government contracting interference or attempts at anonymity. This of course served them well in the post-war years - it puts to shame today's 'social media' and 'viral' marketing.....

The SX-25 is gray, smaller in size and not rack mountable.
