Well,
I can understand that for sure, but the resistor looks pretty
distinctively yellow, brown, black stripes with the last being gold
putting it into a 5% tolerance. According to my chart, the actual spec
calls for a 47k which would be yellow, violet, black and it could be
quite possible the brown stripe was violet but it looks to be quite a
stretch from looking at this thing. But, this is good to know because in
the future I will keep that in mind and not take the color on the
resistor to be quite true if it is fried. Even at 41K with a 5%
tolerance, the resistor I took out wasnt even close to the spec called
for in the manual. After closer investigating under the chassis, I see
someone has been messing with it and it has some strange areas that I
need to look at closer. The radio works fine, but, there is a cluster of
diodes and resistors that are just soldered in mid air around the power
supply circuitry. So, Im thinking the owner who did this must have had
some power supply issues and rewired to his liking. Boy, is it a mess.
When I become a bit more secure about my troubleshooting, I might tackle
that project to get it back to square one. I would love to see what a
stock radio looks like compared to mine. Some pictures of the
undercarriage wiring of one that hasnt been modified would be nice to
see to compare to mine. The pictures in the manual arent very clear so
it is hard to tell what this mess is supposed to look like. Anyway, I
feel good that I was able to find this little issue and can move on to
something else in hopes of improving this old radio.
