Try a Sony 'center' surround speaker that you can usually find for < $5 at the local thrift store.
Better than my Palstar, etc....

The modern transceivers I have had all had 3" or smaller speakers in them that 
were either in the top or bottom of the cases . and the reproduction was so bad 
I could not understand anything . using a set of medium quality computer 
speakers on the FT 950 .
