[Hallicrafters] SX-28 audio

Hello All,

 

Many thanks, and a Happy New Year to all of you who were so kind as to look
at the photos and comment on the restorability of my SX-28. It has gone to
Olaf, KF4TP, who has restored five SX-28's, so he knows what he is getting
into. He says that this will be the oldest that he has worked on.

 

SX-28 audio is of legendary quality. Does anyone have a clue why? Push-pull
6V6's? Bass reflex speaker? High quality output transformer? Choice of wide
selectivity? AM instead of SSB? All, or none, of the above? 

 

I'm planning a home-brew receiver, and will build whatever audio section
that good audio requires.
