Ha, seems like everyting is suffering from hearing deficiencies!  Like the 
Drake stuff, the old Halliscratcher tube sockets are a frequent problem. 
They oxidize on the inside of the individual pin sockets, and the effect 
seems exacerbated by heat - then cool.  Make a tool of some manner to go 
into the sockets, and clean then with abrasion AND DeOxIT.  After you're 
done, push a sharp scribe between the socket material and each pin-socket 
"ear" to SQUISH they together.  i.e. make them tighter.  See if THAT'S your 
problem.
