Terry,
Wow, you are the first person who I've connected with who also suffers from Diplacusis. There is a lot of info on it on the Internet (c/o Wikipedia). All I know is this symptom that preceded my sudden hearing loss by a full 20 years. I can't find much on the web about its link to hearing loss. When I whistle certain single tones I can hear the tone modulated at the beat frequency of the perceived frequency difference (so my brain apparently is a textbook "mixer").
Most excellent you plan on seeing an ENT!! Actually, you might plan on seeing several ENTs to seek "2nd or 3rd opinions". So many of them want to make you feel you are normal (which I hope you are). In my case they were dead wrong!! It seems to me that this area of medicine is the least understood and the most arcane. Opinions, diagnoses, prognoses and treatment options seems as varied as the number of ENTs I've seen.
All,
This space on the Web is for you fine folks to continue enjoying your fine vintage radios (BTW, I have an SX-28A and two SR-150s). As such, if anyone would like to obtain more information on this health topic that is so key to enjoying our hobby (e.g. experiences, symptoms, test types, test descriptions, treatment options, results...), please contact me off line at mikeqrpfun at aol.com
Let your tubes continue warming our lives and enriching your passion for this great hobby!!
