[Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters Digest, Vol 123, Issue 8

Pre-WW2, the US 5 meter band was 56-60 mc. After the war, the allocation was shifted down to 50-54 mc. I don't believe there was any post-war operation allowed on 5 meters. The pre-war 2-1/2 meter band was 112-116 mc, shifted up to 2 meters at 144-148. 2-1/2 meters was the first ham band released for post-war US operation in October 1945, because the War Emergency Radio Service (WERS) had been active there during the war. But it wasn't long (circa mid 1946) before replacement by 2 meters to make way for VHF air navigation aids (VOR, etc) in the 108-118 mc band.

 Wasn't there a 5 metre amateur band
 here in USA?

A lot of other countries had (and still have) a 4 metre
 amateur band at 70 MHz.
