[Hallicrafters] SX-28

Lots of info here about identifying your receiver.  From the serial number it sounds like late 1940 or early 1941 production.

The "Phil's Old Radios" web site has a very fine article on restoring the SX-28, especially the procedure for recapping the RF section.  May as well replace all the resistors while you're in that part; it's not somewhere you want to have to go twice.

Above all:  Submerge the urge to "plug it in and see if it works."  You may already know how risky, indeed foolhardy, this would be.  There's no telling how long it's been since the last time it was powered up, and the electrolytics may be bad.  All too easy to make a Krispy Kritter out of the power transformer, and they are practically unobtanium now.

Do you have the rack-style full bottom cover?  Those are often missing and not easy to find.

Hello All,



I've gotten an SX-28 from the estate of an SK ham, and I'm needing some help
identifying it. 



The serial number is H-119034, if that helps any. It's a rack mount without
a cabinet, and the ID plate says things about its being sold only for
amateur and experimental use. On the front panel is a decal that says--2175
US  GrS. 



I've got some "Krud Kutter" coming in tomorrow, and will do some clean up on
it, and have some photos of it ready in a few days. It's pretty rough, but
appears to be all there, including all the knobs and the main tuning lock.
