[Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters S-40A

 Good afternoon,

 Just finished recapping a S-40a and having a small problem with it. When
you first turn the radio on it pops and crackles really loudly for 30-60
seconds or more, even with the AF gain and Sensitivity all the way down.
Does this no matter what band or frequency and setting. Would this popping
and crackling be P/S related or should  I look somewhere else ?
 I am new to working on Boat anchor gear, so be gentle...lol
