Hi Chris:
Don't remember for sure but the nut on the bearing may be too tight crushing
it.

Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

Subject: [Hallicrafters] SX-100 stiff bandswitch

I have two nice examples of the SX-100, a Mk 2 and Mk IB. Both have very
stiff (IMO) bandswitches. One of my bandswitch knobs had given its best
before the torque required to change bands cracked the 50 yo plastic
(fracture occurred at the set screw hole). The PO had epoxied it but it
still came apart. I inspected the other set's bandswitch knob. It had
hairline cracks running from the set screw to the outer surface so it was
removed before further damage was done. Both sets now use a "TU" style bar
knob. BTW, if you use your SX-100 frequently, you might check your
bandswitch knob before it's too late.

They are on the bench now and I intend to use a light non sticky lub on the
bandswitch bearing surfaces but I am looking for other possible cures. Sure
would like to lighten the load!

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Chris
