Hi Mike et al:
I have several boat anchors including a pair of SX-100 radios and all behave
the same way with the RF gain control. Guess the coincidence question is
answered.
I believe using a reverse taper pot might be questionable. Using a small
segment of a high resistance compared to a large segment of a low resistance
seems to be a better solution even if there is discomfort in the way it
behaves: Like using a 1/8 watt resistor rather than a 1 watt resistor. Don’t
know --- just a thought.
Also, if your radio is a MK2 there is little reason for you to use the RF
gain other than at 10. The MK1 a different story. The logic demands that
you use the RF gain for SSB and CW.
Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

At the moment, my shack has 8 boat anchor receivers representing 8 models
from 6 manufacturers. EVERY one of them exhibits this trait where, on a
scale of 0-10, 0-7 is there for decoration and all of the change occurs
between 7-10. Is this a common trait to all receivers of this vintage, or
have they all had their pots replaced with the wrong type?
