I have always thought of learning CW is like learning a foreign
language....It takes practice, practice, practice!

I learned CW in high school in 1950 and was pretty good as a young kid.
Went in the Navy two years later and spent six months in Radio School
learning how to type (as I already knew CW) and got pretty good at it.
Later, as a radio op on a destroyer, I was able to copy 40 wpm with no
errors. . . .

The best advice I can give you is to NOT TOUCH A KEY until you have reached
your goal copying speed. This worked for me and with some determination,
it will work for you too. 99% of my hamming (since 1953) has been with CW.
. . .Now at age 79, I don't get on the air much anymore.

Good luck es 73

Hi, A recent comment to the forum from a younger member stated "he couldn't
learn CW." I'm older (80) and my speed receiving can't seem to get above 5
or 7 wpm. I was wondering for those older CWers, how many of you got your
training in the service. Just wondering. I guess I just need to practice
more often - that's what I'm told.
