[Hallicrafters] HT-30 and SWR meters

Hi Bob,

It is baffling to say the least! Do you see power output on the HT-30 meter
after adjusting the calibrate control and the carrier level control in CW
position? Does it show output on the HT-30 meter with modulation in DSB.
LSB, or USB?

Connecting a meter to the output can't key the transmitter unless in some
way it causes the PA to oscillate. Can you try it in 80,40 and 20 meters to
see if it acts the same on each band? Can you try a different coax cable
between the transmitter and the meter? Are you trying this into a dummy load
and if not what is the load?

I recall that this HT-30 was badly abused so I'd look really carefully to
see if something between the antenna connector and the rest of the circuitry
looks out of place.

Are all the power meters the same? Can you borrow a totally different one
from somebody to try?

All of these are just guesses and though I have the manual, I just don't see
a common link between the RF output circuit and the Standby switch.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] HT-30 and SWR meters

Hi all,
I am a bit baffled trying to get swr meters to work with my newly
restored HT-30 transmitter. I have 4 which I have swapped and tried with
the unit. The radio works fine when I dont have a meter in line. But,
anytime I hook one up inline, the transmitter goes into transmit when I
turn the dial from "warm up" to "standby". All of the meters work fine
with all of my other transmitters. A Viking Ranger and a Hammarlund
HX-50. All of the swr meters are the Radio Shack/Micronta style. Anybody
have any idea what might be going on? Not that I really need one but it
is nice to see the power output and the swr in case it changes for some
reason.

Thanks-Bob-W0YBS
