A handbuilt (by a technician) pre-production or engineering build would 
be my guess.  My SX-88 is one of those (based on a conversation with 
Chuck Dachis) - it has a nameplate but no serial number,  scribe marks, 
an extra tube, and four crystals in the 2nd converter instead of two.  
Even one spot where a tube socket hole was punched in the wrong place, 
welded-up, and re-punched. Congrats!   It makes what you have a rare bird.
