I wonder if it is a "home brew" equivalent that was made using parts from Hallicrafters.  There are a number of Collins 75A-4 receivers that were built with components acquired from the Collins surplus stores.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] MYSTERY SX-117 - WHAT IS IT?

I have a rather unusual SX-117 and would appreciate comments on what it is.  The set has:

1 A shiny aluminum chassis with NO identifying tube types, control names, or rear panel connector labels.

2 Square openings thru the chassis do not have a clean appearance. There are scribe lines on the chassis in some areas.

3 The 1600 and 1700 crystal sockets are not parallel to each other - it is almost like someone hand drilled th e m ounting holes.

4 Several screw holes are somewhat elongated.  It is as if someone wanted the hole to be larger.

5 Wiring and soldering do not have that "production" look - its a bit sloppy.

The front panel and cabinet are pure SX-117

I'm starting to think it is an  engineeingr or pre-production model

I have no use for it and likely will offer it for sale.

Comments are appreciated, thank you
