[Hallicrafters] S-76 Paint Color

If you have an air compressor and paint gun, then Sherwin-William Low Sheen black 6403-26047 is a "perfect" match to the black used on many of the Hallicrafters receivers.  That number is for 1-quart acrylic.  When I had the paint "computer" matched for those receivers, it came back to a "standard" paint sold by Sherwin-Williams.  I have used this paint on a number of the Hallicrafters receivers (i.e. S-40 series, SX-99, etc.) and one cannot tell the difference between the original and the color of this paint.

For this, and several other paint formulas for "boat anchor" radios, go to:

At least for my Sherwin-Williams store here in Richardson, Texas, they can match any paint.  Now they might not "call" the paint by any particular number, but the formula of the custom match will work!  I have had all sorts of colors matched and, so far, every one of them has been "spot on".

Krylon 1613 is, unfortunately, no longer available.
It has been replaced by Krylon 51613 Satin Black which is NOT the same. Too
much gloss
A recent Drake refinish project led me to buying about 6 different brands
and shades to try. Dupli-Color 1608 Semi-Gloss Black is closer to the old
Krylon 1613 but still has a little more sheen. After evaluating all my trial
pieces I ended up using Krylon flat black and buffing lightly with mineral
spirits to the desired sheen.
Do NOT believe the internet when you search for a supplier of the old 1613.
The searches are wrong and you may think you have found it. When your
purchase arrives it will be the 51613.
I chased this all the way back to Sherwin Williams(who manufactures all of
it anyway) and was told by several there that it is NOT available---no how
no way. And no, the SWP store can't make it either.
