It doesn't matter where the filter is, as long as it's in there.

The 2K field will make for lots of filtering.  It obviously worked for many years.

I'm guessing the grids are reversed, can you find another schematic?
You can tell by looking at the socket wiring.

I'd change the filter caps.  The orig. 4uF is right across the rectifier output and 80s are expensive, not to mention the pwr xfmr!
Your 16uF makes the load on the 80 even worse!  I'd put some new caps under the chassi and disconnect the Mallories.
In fact, why not use some diodes and a dropping resistor and disconnect the 80 filament, even sneak a fuse into the HV secondary.

I notice some audio from the speaker circuit going back to the AF amp grid.  Early negative feedback??

II've never used a 5T, but did fix up an S-19R, which was mostly fun.  I hope you make some contacts with it!
