If you want to see a transformer that runs way outside it's ability,
go to Rat Shack and buy a small "6.3 volt" filament transformer. Hook
it up to a load of perhaps half its current rating and look at the
output on a scope. You will see a seriously flat topped wave form.
The things are made with modern materials in the wire and insulation,
but they get hotter than will a similar unit from the bottom of your
junque box.
