If you have done an extensive job on the -42 adn -62, you can  
certainly do a fine job on the -25.  Good on ya for the experience.

It's likely a "gimmick" - the two twisted wires form a low value  
capacitor (2 to 5+ pF) to feed the oscillator signal into the 2nd IF.   
Cheaper than a fixed ceramic cap, and quite effective.
