Richard,

Coupla suggestions:
Post your inquiry on the milsurplus list
[http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/milsurplus]. They're a very active
bunch and very helpful.
Also check the index of Electric Radio [http://www.ermag.com/]. There've
been a number of articles on the BC-610. Past issues are available for
purchase on the ER website.

It's quite a transmitter!

Good luck,
Chris

Subject: [Hallicrafters] BC-610 questions

I don't have one but may someday. I was looking at the military
manuals from BAMA and learned a bunch of stuff I didn't know. It appears
that there were many versions of the BC-610 and evidently they were built
into the 1950s. I did not know that the earlier versions did not go beyond
8 Mhz, was this true of the HT-4 also? I also didn't know that each tuning
unit had a VFO on it. How did one adapt a TX to an external VFO, or is that
even possible.
I rather like the large number of meters on the earlier versions but it
appears the later ones used a multi-purpose meter for some of those
functions. That would certainly have been an economy and also meters were
evidently in short supply during the war.
What I mainly want to ask is if anyone on this list has an active BC-610
of any version on the air? What sort of opinions do users have of them?
Are they actually practical?
I will also post this to the ARC-5 list although I suspect most of the
members are also members here.
