I am picking the Sunday 20 meter Net on my SX-28 here in Ventura, CA -
garbled and barely discernible, but I am getting some of the conversation.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Join Sunday Halli 20 Meter Net
Please join us for the Sunday Hallicrafters 20 meter Net. It begins at 12:30
PM EST and runs until 2:00 PM EST. Or, 1730 - 1900 UTC.
The frequency is supposed to be 14.293 MHZ USB +/- for key clicks, mike
splatter and various and sundry dribble and all sorts of assorted sounds and
noises. Never a dull microsecond!
We have encountered a most peculiar issue with 'our' operating frequency. It
seems that an African American group, that is dedicated to African American
Hams, operating on 14.295 MHZ has been there since 1952.
This is the OMIK Net. The "OMIK" stands for: Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and
Kentucky. Apparently this group was originally formed because of
discrimination? In any event, this Ham believes that discrimination against
operators of "all" races is rarely a problem in 2012. What was perhaps
necessary fifty years ago may not be necessary today. In my opinion, we are
"all Hams", that is brotherhood enough for all of us.
All of my attempts on all levels have failed in working out a mutually
agreeable solution. I have been asked to terminate operating because I am
making operation on 14.295 not possible.
Now I found some strangers that I had never spoken with before on twenty
meters and asked them to check my signal for splattering beyond the legal
boundries. NOT a single Ham found my signal to be more than 2KHZ wide, most
found it less than. I checked this on three different Sunday's.
I wrote the NCS for the OMIK Net, gave him my landline and asked him to
contact me so that we could work out a mutually satisfactory solution. He
never contacted me. I believe that I have done my part.
I am 'NOT' moving the Hallicrafters Net.
Enough said on the topic. I hope to hear many of you tomorrow.
