If you are talking about trading the tubes for work I
think there are many here who are expert and will advise you
via the list without being compensated. That is really the
purpose of lists like this one.
The S-38 is not a particularly sophisticated receiver,
in fact, its a plain old AA-5 with short wave bands and a
BFO.
Do you have any instruments? Working on receivers
really requires at least a decent VOM and some sort of
signal source. Its well to have an electronic voltmeter as
well. An oscilloscope can be very helpful but is not a
necessity.
The most common problem with all old receives is bad
capacitors. If you have worked on old broadcast band tube
receivers the S-38 will be easy and many other
communications receivers not much more complicated.
