[Hallicrafters] SX-100 vs SX-88

Greg,

Something else that happened in the time frame when the SX-88 and SX-100
were being made - Hallicrafters was sold. The new owner almost killed the
company. Bill Halligan, Sr. paid something like a million dollars to buy the
company back. Now this was in the late fifties, and he may have only bought
back a controlling interest in the company.

Hmmm. Some notes I have say that Bill Halligan retained a large interest in
Hallicrafters when he sold it the first time. A controlling interest, maybe,
maybe not.

He bought the company back and spent several years putting Hallicrafters
back as a major player.

One of Halligan's big strong points, was his use of the best parts available
in the Hallicrafters products. Remember, his former partner, Toby, and he
sold parts around the world "before" Bill founded Hallicrafters.

It was because of his super good relationships with the top quality parts
makers that he was able to manufacture equipment with a minimal cash flow
available for said parts! Because of the exclusivity that Halligan gave
parts suppliers, they extended to him a healthy credit line!
