     Well, I think this is because they are "collectable". 
There are classic cars that sell for hundreds of times their 
original price.  They don't get it because of their 
performance but because of their appearance.  The SX-88 is a 
rather elegant and "sexy" looking receiver so some people 
want it for that. Add that it is on the rare side and you 
have the makings of an expensive collector's item.
