[Hallicrafters] HHI Nets And CME

Hi Roy,
I just shutdown the Saturday HHI 40M Net due to lack of useable propagation.
In my opinion: The forecast is not correct. Big surprise, heh? As of 1720
UTC I could not hear a single station on the forty meter band from 7.225 -
7.285 MHZ LSB. I did hear five atmosphere related "noises" that were from
+/-2 KHZ to 10 KHZ wide. One reminded me of the RF audio emitted by the
planet Jupiter! But this was NOT Jupiter!
IF, and I mean "IF", the forecast is close - the bands may not be useable
until about twenty-six hours from now, or about 1830 UTC March 11th.
There is way too much involved to get into any kind of even reasonably
accurate projections Roy, in my mind anyhow. If the velocity of the CME
(Coronal Mass Ejection) remains at its originally stated speed, the main
part of the atmospheric disruption will get here about2200 UTC today. Slower
and it will arrive from 0001 - 0500 UTC or later.
It is likely that decent propagation will not be present until late March
11th. or possibly March 12th.
Roy, it would be most interesting, and helpful, if you, and others, would
spot different bands and report what you hear. Some of can monitor low
bands, others the high bands, some various beacons etc. Some can listen for
Voice COMS and others for CW or RTTY COMS.
Since this CME is supposed to be mighty close to a direct hit on the Earth's
electromagnetic fields, putting all of the reported data together just
"might" yield some useful future information! So those of you who do listen
over the next twenty-four to thirty hours, on and off - of course!, please
report what you here to the list. Then some of us can collect it and put it
into a report format. The final results to be posted here for all to share
and contemplate.
Thanks Roy! Keep us posted, please.
